Hello All,

The artists form the heart of the company and define what Streetwires is. This business is doing great things, since its main objective is the creation of sustainable jobs for the people in South Africa. Streetwires has implemented a nice production chain. This is allowing the company to accept big orders without reducing the quality on the different hand made products. At the moment, approximately 90 individuals make up the organization, they influence not only directly to their families and friends but to the rest of the industry.

Artists are organized in teams, currently there are 5 teams. Each team is managed by a group leader, who is responsible for the quality and timely delivery of the products. Let me introduce you these team leaders, which really are making the difference.

Jethro Mare is the team leader of the team “911”. Jethro has worked within Streetwires for 4 years. He began as shop assistant at one shop in the tourism center Greenmarket square. He’s been 911 team leader since last year. He has made wire art for 6 years and he likes making Geckos from all sizes! The name of the group is 911, because it’s an emergency team

Joel Ghimbwamba is the team leader of SMACKDOWN. Joel has worked in Streetwires since the birth of the company. Before becoming group leader in 2004, he was shaper. His team has the name of He assigns work from the job card according speciality of each member. He loves making radios. The group’s name is SMACKDOWN, because all that we do comes from scratch.

Christopher Sandifolo is the team leader of TIGERS. Chris has been a wire artist since he was round 20 years. He began work for Streetwires in the beginning of the year 2000. After he had been group leader of Smackdown, he was part of the sample team, and then came back to the factory. Wire is everytime in his life and his favorite products are master pieces. They named the group (TIGERS), because it’s a beautiful and strong animal.

Vuyokazi Didi is the team leader of TANUMA. Vuyokazi became group leader this year and she is the only female at the head of artists! She has been working as a beader since she arrived to Streetwires in 2005. They named the group TANUNA because it is an Xhosa phrase which mean “the best one”.

Luckson Tinago is the team leader of TWENTY 47. Luckson, in his mother country Zimbabawe worked as a welder until he came to Cape Town in 2005. Luckson began wire art when he arrived in Streetwires. Now, he is group leader of the new plastic team. He can make plastic as well as bead and wire! The group’s name is TWENTY 47, because they work 24h every 7 days of the week !

Next week I will share with you how a product is actually made from wire and scratch.

Cheers

Gonzalo
